We are trying to carry out some research on behalf of an elderly relative (81yrs) who now lives in Australia. The information that she has provided us with is a little sketchy, but having viewed your site, possibly your goodself or one of your subscribers may identify and be able to point us in the right direction? The husband’s name was Alma Walker, he was a musician and Bandstand Leader. We thought nowadays he might be referred to as a Conductor. Alma married a young lady whom we only known as Anita. Anita’s mother was a tightrope walker with a circus. The tightrope walking troupe, we are told was known as ‘The Flying ………..’ The unknowns are the last name of the troupe and the name of the circus. Of the circus we believe that it toured England and possibly the UK in the summer months and in the winter the animals were returned to winter quarters. The Walker family returned to their home in Sheffield. That, unfortunately is all the information that we have. Any guidance or assistance would really be appreciated.

Many thanks, regards, John & Janet Wimbleton

Hi just seen yor message and think I have been searching the same family. My maternal grandfather was Charles Douglas Walker whose father was Alma Walker a circus musician who married Sarah Griffiths. Their daughter was Anita Walker born 1889 followed 5 yrs later by the birth of my grandfather. I have struggled to find what happened to Alma and sarah but my grandfather seemed to have lived with his uncle Arthur from as young as 6yrs old. Hope this helps.

Regards, Janet
