Looking for age / information about this poster I purchased. I was told it was from the 1920’s / 30’s era and looks to be from the type of graphics. Has Robbins Bros Circus in large red letters across top over Santa in sleigh pulled by reindeer flying in the night sky over rooftops. On left is Mammoth Spectacle Santa Claus in Fairyland. Has anyone seen this poster before? There is an illustration of it on the cover of the Nov.Dec. 1963 issue of Bandwagon Circus magazine but I didn’t see any information about in the magazine. The original owner put it on a thin piece of masonite and added a silver border sprinkled with glass glitter to make it more Christmasy looking. I collect old Christmas related items but know nothing about circus things. Is there any way to attach photos? Thanks.
This poster was utilized by the Robbins Bros Circus in the late 1920’s. It was produced by the Standard Litho Company of St Paul, Minnesota. Copies exist in the collections of the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin and The Ringling in Sarasota, Florida. It is considered rare by collectors and has not been seen in auctions recently. If in its original condition, it could be of value. If altered, however, the value would be greatly reduced.
Please post a photo of the poster by accessing the answer section of the Q&A Board, selecting this query and using the attachment function.
The poster’s value to circus historians and collectors will be diminished by the fact that it has been altered as you suggest.
