I’m looking specifically for the name of a circus that would have traveled through a small town in Missouri around 1900 and would have returned to the same town on multiple occations (annually, biannually, etc.). I’m doing research for a fiction book I’m writing, and these are the only qualifications that I’m looking for. I currently know nothing about traveling circuses at this time. Do you know of any good resources or books that I can consult to find out more of this type of information. Perhaps I just need to start researching this type of circus generally instead of searching for a specific one.

id you find the information you were looking for? When I was a child in Northern Missouri I recall a Circus that wintered at Lancaster, Missouri. I don’t recall the name of the Circus, however, I still have a Cousin that lives in that town and perhaps she can supply the name. Let me know if you are still interested.

This might be too early, but found: Missouri Historical Review, October 1952 (vol. 47, #1). “The Circus in Early Rural Missouri.” By Elbert R. Bowen. pp. 1-17. Looks like it was also published in Bandwagon, Early Circus in Missouri, Brown, Elbert, Sept.-Oct. 1965 p. 12.
