I have an old trunk from around 1900. Across the top is written “The Dancing Mars Theatre”. I’ve been told that they were a circus before Barnum & Bailey but I haven’t been able to find any information on them. They may have just been an act for a circus by another name. If you have any information on them please let me know.

Thanks. Karla Preston

The Dancing Mars were not a circus but a vaudeville trio that specialised in acrobatic/pantomime dance shows with scenic effects, telling quaint little stories, such as their most succesfull ‘All for a kiss’ (1911 to 1915 approx) described as ‘an elaborate terpsichordean diversion,’ the trio consisted of Bobby, Gertrude and Carletta, not sure what their last name was.
