Chester C. Gregory was born in 1907 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada. He spent many years in the circus industry and, at the time of his death in 1952 in Nebraska, was thought to have operated the Biller Brothers Circus. Chester and his wife were here on Prince Edward Island with the circus around 1950. It was the only time that he and I met face-to-face. His wife, the former Sylvia Morris, was thought to have been born in Missouri. She performed the “iron jaw” act at the circus performances. After Chester’s death, Sylvia is reported to have remarried to a Hirschberger. She died in Santa Rosa, California around 1970. Chester and Sylvia are both buried in York, South Carolina. If anyone has information about Chester and Sylvia Gregory, I would most certainly appreciate receiving the same. I have pictures of both Chester and Sylvia that I would be willing to e-mail to anyone with a deep interest in the circus industry.

Hi! My maiden name is Sylvia Dianne Henson. I ran across this site while looking for information about Sylvia. My parents named me after her. She was our neighbor in Charlotte, North Carolina. This was her winter home, and they wintered their animals in York, S. C. I have various photos of Sylvia, Billy Dick and Jimmy Hirschberger at various stages of my life. I was saddened by her death and attended her funeral in York. She was a gracious, and wonderful lady to all the children in our community. We as children looked forward to her coming in winter because she always brought us a toy. Anyway, I would be interested in photographs of her or any of these people if you have them available. Thanks!
Regards, Dianne H. Carpender
Hello, I am Sylvia Gregory’s niece. I live in the state of Washington. My mother is Sylvia’s sister and her name is Ruth Hartill. My Aunt Sylvia died in Petaluma, California on May 20, 1971. I’ll never forget that date. I never had the chance to see my Aunt perform in the circus. Our family lived in Washington state my whole life and I only was reacquainted with my Aunt when she married James Hirschberger and they were part of a carnival on the West Coast. We were fortunate to see her a week before she passed. I believe my brother has pictures of my aunt and we are trying to get hold of them from him. I would appreciate any photos you can send to me via e-mail.
Thank you, Lydia Umbaugh
I grew up in Macon, GA where King Brothers Circus and or King Bros. & Cristiani Combined Circus had winter quarters. I saw Sylvia Gregory work on the King Show with her aerial act (Iron Jaw). She also did a low wire act in the circus. She was always a favorite of mine. This was in the early to mid fifties. I would really like to talk to you about receiving any photo you may have of Sylvia Gregory. Will be glad to pay for same. I do not know all of the particulars but I believe that Sylvia Gregory came to a tragic end after her last marriage. I have some King Bros Programs and I believe she is listed in the program. Best I recall – she also worked web and ladder.
Best to You, Charles
