Recently bought a Ringling Bros/Barnum and Bailey circus poster, but there was no date. With the blank paper border around the outside it measures 54 by 76 inches. The poster says “the mongolians are coming”. If anyone has any info on this poster on when it was made please let me know. It is a truly beautiful poster.
In 1992, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey’s 122nd edition featured the very finest performers from Mongolia. The souvenir program of The Greatest Show on Earth featured a 22 x 34 poster of “The Amazing Mongolians” along with mug shots of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey and Irving and Kenneth Feld.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey 122nd edition featured an entire Mongolian circus. The catch phrase in the promotion was “The Mongolians are coming”. That means that your poster is about 12 years old and was used in advertising the show. RBBB frequently put up posters inside arenas. The 54 x 76 inches size is the size they use for this purpose. However, Feld as a public relation dept. that would give you more ample information. As for the mention of the smaller size poster (included in the souvenir program) it was simply so that you can establish that the 122nd edition was in 1992.
I saw the circus billboard ‘The Mongolians are coming’ when Ringling Brothers circus came to St. Louis, Missouri. What the circus wanted to say that Kazhakh horse riders will be performing. I saw the shoe and the Kazhakh bare back horse riders were fantastic.
